Why I Keep Returning to Egypt

I’ll be honest.

I don’t go to workshops or retreats often.

When it comes to the spaces I sit in, I’m a cunt.
But the processes I trust the most are the ones that include established science, and then expand beyond it.

They include the more experiential methods which science has not proven but which our ancestors have used for thousands of years.

The legacy and transmission of these traditions is powerful.

And their highest power actually lies in the fact that they need no proof to be validated.

This is why I keep going back to Egypt.

What finds me in these ceremonies has many layers:

First, a level of energetic entrainment that IS understood and explained by science.

Systems and patterns of frequency vibrate at rhythms which are measurable, and significantly more elemental and resonant to our beings than the ones available to us in daily life.

Between the temple, its stones, and the participants who gather, a process of entrainment and attunement takes place.

Neuroscience calls this co-regulation.

But this word is frankly bland next to thousands of years of experience and transmission, immortalized in carvings and glyphs.

Science has no words for these.

The work that happens at these temples is preverbal, somatic, energetic.

Its impact can be measured in ways traditional psychology recognizes, but it operates at levels far more intrinsic.

It involves our energy body and also out brainstem.

Both speak a language our mind doesn’t understand.

They speak in tingling, in temperature, in the tightening behind the sternum, in our posture, in a held breath that never fully released.

A nervous system that decides, long before it can think, whether the world is safe or something to brace against.

This is where our earliest imprints live.

Pre language.

Pre story.

These older technologies offer us a way in. And the Sphinx, I learned, is pivotal for this.

Last year I joined an energetic ceremony on 8/8 at the Sphinx, and it was one of the most powerful experiences my system had ever registered.

Half lion, half human, (fully goddess) she sits as guardian at the threshold to temples built for descent, and rebirth.

What we experience there is a shamanic root of somatic work: frequencies within us that vibrate at levels which entrain our vagal rhythm.

Our bodies feel safe.

We stop holding.

Like the god Osiris, who was dismembered and remembered, we return cell by cell to a memory of ourselves that is more true, more divinely attuned.

So this date, this sacred space, these rituals and ceremonies, offer an environment the nervous system can use as permission:

Permission to truly feel the subtle energies our being forgot it had access to.

In these spaces our bodies show us what is hidden, held, and ready to finally be cradled, and to soften.

What is ready, then, can emerge.
